Visual Journal Prompt: Vulnerability

Bible Journaling Ideas Vulnerability

Beautifully Broken

So often, we try to hide our flaws and vulnerabilities, fearing they make us weak. But those cracks are where the light shines brightest? Instead of hiding our brokenness, what if we embraced it, letting God’s light radiate through our weaknesses and transform us?

Like a broken lantern, our imperfections don’t disqualify us, they allow God’s grace to shine through.

Strength in Weakness

Vulnerability is something many of us try to avoid. It's uncomfortable, it's risky, and it exposes us in ways that can feel like standing naked before the world.

In many ways, vulnerability is like a broken lantern. The cracks that we fear will reveal our weaknesses are actually the very places where God's light can shine through. We don't have to be perfect. We don’t have to hold it all together. Our brokenness doesn't make us less worthy, it makes us more available for God's light to radiate. And that light can reach others in ways that perfection never could.

Christ died for us not because we were whole, but because we were broken. His love met us in our weakness, not our strength. Because of His sacrifice, we can stop hiding our cracks and start letting them reflect His grace. It’s through those very openings that His love is seen most clearly.

Sure, there are moments when vulnerability leads to hurt, rejection, or disappointment. But there are also times when it opens doors to unexpected grace, deeper empathy, and a connection with others that might have been impossible otherwise.

When was the last time I allowed myself to be truly vulnerable? What came out of that experience: connection, growth, or pain? Reflect on a real moment of openness and how it shaped you.

What fears keep me from being vulnerable with others or even with God?
Identify the barriers that make you hide your true self.

How might my weaknesses or “cracks” be the very places where God wants to shine His light?
Consider how God could use your struggles for His glory and others’ good.

Where in my life is God inviting me to show up more honestly: with others, with myself, or with Him?
Look for the spaces where God is nudging you toward brave vulnerability.

Let your journaling today be a quiet embrace of the broken lantern. An honest naming of the cracks, and a bold trust that His light still shines through every one of them.
